15 people dead en route to Sokoto state

Tragedy struck on Monday, as 15 people lost their lives in a fatal road accident that occurred along the Sokoto-Gusau road.

According to reports, the accident involved a commercial bus and a trailer truck. The commercial bus was said to be travelling from Lagos to Sokoto state, while the trailer truck was coming from Gusau, Zamfara state.

Eyewitnesses reported that the accident occurred at about 5am in the morning, due to overspeeding and reckless driving by both drivers. The trailer truck was said to have collided with the commercial bus, resulting in a fire outbreak that consumed both vehicles.

The Sokoto State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Aliyu Ma’aji, confirmed the incident and said that 15 people lost their lives, while 6 others sustained injuries.

Ma’aji expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased, while urging motorists to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations to avoid accidents.

This incident has once again highlighted the need for road safety measures to be enforced and adhered to in Nigeria. The country has one of the highest rates of road accidents in the world, with thousands of lives lost annually due to reckless driving, overspeeding, and poorly maintained vehicles.

The FRSC has been working tirelessly to ensure road safety, but more needs to be done to address the root causes of road accidents in the country. Motorists also have a role to play by adhering strictly to traffic rules and regulations, and ensuring that their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on any journey.
