Two dozen House Republicans on Tuesday called for the impeachment and removal of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in the next Congress for failing to end the immigration crisis at the southern border.
Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), who last year introduced articles of impeachment against President Biden’s DHS chief, led a delegation of lawmakers at a press conference Tuesday to discuss how Mayorkas “committed high crimes and misdemeanors.” conducted court proceedings. ” deserves impeachment.
“Secretary Mayorkas has allowed more than one million illegal aliens into the country,” Biggs said said. “Many of these illegal aliens are never heard from again.”
The Arizona Republican, who said he will challenge Rep. Kevin McCarthy (D-Calif.) in the next Congress, argued that Mayorkas “failed to operationally control the border as required by law.” He “may have lied to Congress” when he testified that the border situation was under control and that he was not detaining illegal immigrants as required by law.
“The law is clear, illegal aliens must be arrested,” Biggs said.
Several other House Republicans took to the podium Tuesday to oppose Mallorca’s handling of the border crisis.
“He knows what to do, but he literally refuses to do it – on purpose” said Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas).
The border state Republican added that Mallorcas is “deliberately endangering the American people and immigrants who seek to come here.”
“You believe that this is a major crime and a violation of the law,” Roy added.
Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) said it’s time for House Republicans to “take action” on the southern border rather than “talk about what’s going on” and that impeachment of Majorca is “a good place to start.”
“Secretary Mayorkas has refused to address this crisis. But we don’t. He routinely lies to the American people that the southern border is closed. I was there. He is very open,” says Boebert said at a press conference.

“In the private sector, if you don’t do your job, you get canned. So why is Mallorcas still our DHS secretary when there were 230,678 illegal encounters at our southern border in October alone?” Rep. Barry Moore (R-Ala.) tweeted on Tuesday.
In order for Majorca to be impeached, the House would have to pass a simple majority resolution impeaching the DHS chief for crimes and misdemeanors. The Senate will then hear impeachment proceedings and require a two-thirds vote to remove Mayorkas, which is unlikely to happen in the Democratic-controlled upper house.
Majorca traveled to the Texas border city of El Paso on Tuesday, where hundreds of immigrants have been released and slept on the streets, to “meet with the CBP workforce, review operations and meet with local officials and organizations,” according to DHS.
