26-year-old Colombian woman killed by boat propeller while trying to get flip-flops

A young Colombian woman was killed by a boat propeller last month after jumping into the water to retrieve her propeller – now a harrowing video has emerged of her final moments.

Natalia Andrea Larranaga Fajardo, 26, of Cali, was visiting White Watta Beach on San Andres Island on Nov. 27 when she boarded a boat full of friends. This was reported by the Miami Herald.

Fajardo accidentally left his sandals behind and jumped back into the ocean to retrieve them. Seconds later, he accidentally hit the boat’s propeller.

Video released by Archipelago Press showed people on nearby ships screaming as Fajardo bled profusely from fatal wounds to his legs and back.

He was eventually picked up on a jet ski and taken to the hospital. Statement by the Department of Public Social Enterprise of San Andres Hospital El Isleño news agency confirmed that he arrived around 17:30 local time.

After extensive surgery and multiple blood transfusions, Fajardo was pronounced dead around 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 28, according to the hospital.

It is reported that the boat and its crew are currently being investigated by the local authorities.

News of Fajardo’s horrific accident comes months after Chicago mother of two Lana Batochir had both legs severed by a boat propeller on Lake Michigan.

“I thought I was dying,” he told reporters of his terrifying experience. “I fought for my life for a few seconds, which felt like minutes. I began to sink, I did not know how to swim.

Both the boat and its crew are reportedly under investigation.

Batochir, 34, underwent a below-knee amputation and nerve surgery for his injuries, after which he began a grueling rehabilitation process.

“Anyone who knows me knows that I love to dance, love music and enjoy life with my family,” she said at the time. “My life was forever changed by one unfortunate tragedy.”
