An investigation is underway after a man was fatally shot Tuesday night in southwest Birmingham.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Michael Martez Johnson. He was 32 years old and living in Birmingham.
Authorities say the gunman opened fire at 10:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Third Avenue SW Johnson and died at the scene at 10:45 p.m.
The fatal shootings are being investigated as a homicide, according to the Office of the Inspector. Birmingham police have not yet released any additional information.
The deadly shootout was one of at least two incidents in Jefferson County overnight.
At 9:40 pm, a 37-year-old man was shot and killed inside Chalkville Manor Drive. He was identified as Timothy Darius Biffle, and the suspect was charged with manslaughter.
The murder in Birmingham marks the city’s 108th homicide this year. Of them, 13 are considered unsustainable and therefore not considered criminal.
In all Jefferson County, there have been 179 murders, including 108 in Birmingham.
