A California man is mourning the death of his family’s beloved Labrador retriever, who was shot and killed by a cruel neighbor after the dog chased a squirrel into his yard.
Marlon Caballero, Pomona, told Fox LA that the family’s 8-year-old dog was shot and killed Sunday — two weeks after they moved into the neighborhood.
The devastated man begged his neighbor to let him take his pooch after shooting him three times, but the heartless man refused.
“I’m begging my neighbor, ‘Hey, please give me my dog, please give me my dog. If you give me my dog, I can save him,” said Caballero.
When Caballero ran home to call 911, he heard several more gunshots.
“He goes to his backyard and unloads at least six rounds from a revolver that I saw,” Caballero told Fox LA.
“And from there it just broke my heart. How could anyone do that [a] a dog,” he added.

The neighbor, whose name has not been released, was charged with animal cruelty and discharging a firearm in public.
“I bought this property just so my dog could run freely. “It’s unimaginable that this could happen,” said Caballero, who filed a restraining order against his neighbor.
