A Michigan sheriff says a man with teeth knocked out kidnapped and sexually assaulted a woman over a three-week period.

A pregnant woman in her 20s was kicked out of her home the week of Thanksgiving, Swanson said. Barajas spotted a frail woman walking alone on the street and pulled his car over. He offered her a warm shower, food and a place to stay.

The victim accepted, unaware that she would be repeatedly raped and trafficked for the next three weeks.

According to Swanson, the woman tried to escape the death chamber three times.

The first time, he ran through an open door during the exchange, but Barajas and the other suspects chased him, shot him and dragged him into a bedroom.

A second escape attempt also led to his recapture. On December 8, the victim experienced a medical emergency related to her pregnancy and was seen by nurses who recognized that the woman was in serious need of care.

According to Swanson, Barajas filled the woman’s need for shelter, groomed her and even forced her to write a letter describing Barajas as her “daddy.”

“This guy is a monster. If you look at the fangs and the throat rip-out threats, I’ll say no more,” he said.

After nurses alerted authorities to the woman’s need, police raided the home and arrested Barajas on multiple charges, including human trafficking, kidnapping, sexual assault, methamphetamine and ecstasy, among other charges.

Barajas is being held in jail on $250,000 bond — $35,000 per charge — and is scheduled to be in court on Dec. 22 for a probable cause conference.
