A spokesman for the Department of Corrections said the parole officer accidentally shot them during a drill at a gunshot wound in Waterbury.
The spokesman said the DOC received a parole and a leg injury after a public service employee “accidentally dropped his weapon.”
Officers released on parole at the scene and instructions on firearms assisted the injured officer.
The probation officer was admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment and has since been released, the spokesman said.
“While this may seem like an unfortunate incident, I am proud that the paroled officers responded without hesitation to care for a wounded colleague,” said Eric Ellison, director of the DOC’s parole and public services department.
Officials said they could not disclose the person’s name because of medical privacy laws.
The DOC is investigating the incident.
