A WOMAN suspected of killing a woman has been found in a North Alabama trench

A woman has been charged in the killing of another woman earlier this month in North Alabama.

Albertville police announced Wednesday that they will arrest Leslie Kay Simms, 29, on a murder warrant. Sims has been charged in the death of 32-year-old Jana Miller Chatman on Nov. 5.

Chatman was found dead shortly before 6:30 a.m. Friday when police responded to an accident report at Dixie Dale Circle. Officers arrived to find that Chatman’s vehicle was in the ditch and that Chatman was outside the vehicle.

Chatman was pronounced dead on the spot. Several shell casings have also been found at the scene.

Albertville Police Chief Jamie Smith said Sims was recently developed as a suspect in the case. Detectives were able to track her down and bring her to trial.

During the trial, Smith said, Sims confessed to the murder. A motive has not yet been determined.

Sims is being held in the Albertville City Jail and awaiting transfer to the Marshall County Jail, where she is being held without bond pending a court hearing.
