Alec Baldwin claims he is not following a ‘rust’ investigation: ‘That’s a lie’

NEW YORK – Alec Baldwin said Saturday that any suggestion that he was not pursuing the deadly shooting of a New Mexico film set last fall was false.

Authorities hope Baldwin’s cellphone in the issue may have a search warrant, which could provide helpful information in the investigation. Baldwin shot a revolver during a rehearsal for his film “Rust” on October 21, killing photographer Halina Hutchins and injuring the film’s directors.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office issued a search warrant last month that called for the “seizure and search of a cellular phone” belonging to Baldwin for an ongoing investigation.

According to court documents obtained, police are attempting to conduct a “forensic download” of the iPhone, which includes text messages, recent call lists, pictures, videos, calls or other information related to filmmaking.

Even weeks after the release of the search warrant, officials still do not have an actor’s phone.

Investigators believe the phone may contain “material and investigative information”, referring to “numerous emails and text messages sent and received” during the police interviews regarding “rust” production.

Baldwin said in an Instagram video posted Saturday that New Mexico needs to go through New York law enforcement and that the process of specifying exactly what is required is time-consuming.

“They can’t go through your phone and take photos of you, or your love letters to your wife or whatever you have,” he said.

‘Rust’ shooting investigation: Alec Baldwin’s mobile phone was searched in a New Mexico search warrant

Baldwin claims he had no idea he had a live round when he turned off the gun he was holding. Investigators are trying to determine where the live round came from, and in a search warrant for Baldwin’s phone, he said he was looking for text messages, pictures, videos, calls or any information related to the movie.

“Any suggestion that I don’t follow requests or orders or orders or search warrants about my phone … is a lie,” he said.
