Alex Jones held responsible for ‘fraud’ Sandy Hook claims by Connecticut judge

A Connecticut judge found that Infowars host Alex Jones was liable for defamation Monday for spreading a false conspiracy theory that the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre was a “fraud.”

Supreme Court Judge Barbara Bellis ruled on behalf of the families of eight people who died in the 2018 school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut. The jury found that Jones lost his case because he failed to provide “conclusive material,” including court-ordered documents and financial records, “requiring prosecutors to prove their claims.”

The Associated Press reports that the default ruling means that the jury is hearing about how much damage Jones must pay.

Jones used his website InfoWars to promote a conspiracy theory that Sandy Hook’s parents were paid “actors” and that the shooting was a government-organized fraud to take civilian firearms.

Jones had already lost by default in separate filings in Texas by failing to produce material for discovery. An inquiry into the damage has also been ordered. Monday’s verdict gave the families of 10 Sandy Hook victims a total of four victories in a defamation lawsuit against Jones, The New York Times Reported.

In the Connecticut lawsuit, Jones and his companies, including parental advocates InfoWorks and Free Speech Systems, violated court rules, failing to transfer documents to them, including internal company records, which show how Jones and Infowars benefited from speaking. About school shooting and other mass shootings.

“His model of defying and ignoring court orders to provide reactive information is well established,” a family lawyer wrote in a court brief in July.

Jones’ attorneys denied violating court rules for document disclosure and asked Bellis to be removed from the case, alleging he was not impartial. Jones said he does not believe the massacre was a fraud. Families of the victims of some school shootings have sued Jones, Infowars and others in fraudulent conspiracy in the courts of Texas and Connecticut, claiming they have been subjected to harassment and death threats by Jones’ followers.
