Alicia Silverstone’s ‘Clueless’ suit gets a makeover for Super Bowl 2023 ad

Re-wearing a dress? As if!

Rakuten’s Super Bowl 2023 ad stars Alicia Silverstone back as “Clueless” heroine Cher Horowitz — complete with that iconic yellow skirt suit.

And the plaid serapes got a makeover for the big moment, courtesy of Silverstone designer Paul Christian Siriano (who also makes a cameo in the commercial).

“Any young fashion designer watching ‘Clueless,’ you fall in love with fashion,” Siriano told The New York Times. “Now, Alicia is one of my best friends.”

Siriano, 37, modernized the ’90s by using a different plaid pattern, cropping the jacket, ditching the cardigan and making the pleated mini a little bigger.

“I think we were riding a really fine line,” Silverstone, 46, told The Times. “Because everyone wants it to be the superior, sophisticated, grown-up version — but still, everyone is completely obsessed with it staying the same.”

The original plaid suit for the 1995 film came courtesy of Dolce & Gabbana, with “Clueless” costume designer Mona May previously telling Page Six Style, “The color was really important … We tried different colors and they were beautiful, but yellow was really important. It was popping, which is what we needed.”

Added May at the time, “It was taking something that’s like a school uniform to a whole other level. And plaid, well, I’ve loved plaid forever.
