“The Dropout” star Amanda Seyfried has joined Canadian filmmaker Atom Egoyan’s “Seven Curtains.”

The “Chloe” director’s latest film is set to begin shooting in Toronto next week. In the film, Seyfried plays Jeanine, a devoted theater director who is given the daunting task of resetting her former patron’s most famous work, the opera “Salome.”

Haunted by dark memories of her past, Janine lets her repressed trauma color the present as she re-enters the world of opera after many years.

“Seven Wells” was written and directed by Egwan, who also produces the film along with New Fishman, Simon Urdle, Fraser Ash and Kevin Crickist.

“Seven Wells” is a Rhombus Media and Ego Film Arts production, produced in association with Cinetic Media, IPR.VC, XYZ Films and Canadian Opera Company, with participation from Telefilm Canada. XYZ’s Aram Tertzakian, Nate Bolotin, Maxime Cottery and Nick Spicer will executive produce, along with John Sloss of Cinetic Media, and Noah Segal and Adrian Love of Elevation Pictures.

Seyfried recently won an Emmy for her portrayal of disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes in Hulu’s “The Dropout.” The actor previously collaborated with Iguana in the film “Chalo”, in which he starred opposite Julianne Moore. He also received an Academy Award nomination in 2021 for his work in David Fincher’s “Manic.”

Egoyan said: “I first produced ‘Salom’ for the Canadian Opera Company almost 30 years ago and was haunted by its themes. It’s a project I’ve dreamed about for years and It’s a pleasure to be reunited with Amanda after the amazing experience of making ‘Chloe’.

“Seven Wells” is a reteaming of XYZ Films, IPR.VC and Rhombus Media, which previously produced and co-financed the highly anticipated Matt Johnson-starrer “Blackberry,” which premieres in Berlin next week. The film will be in competition at the festival. Last year for IFC Films America.

XYZ Films is financing “Seven Veils” and will introduce the project to buyers in Berlin. Elevation Pictures will distribute the film in Canada.
