An East Alabama couple has died of murder-suicide

A man and woman were found dead on Sunday as authorities investigated a murder-suicide.

The investigation began when David James, 42, was found dead in the Lafayette community of Chambers County at County Road 114 with a parental self-inflicted gunshot wound. Chambers County Coroner Jeff Jones announced he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said Chambers County officials then called the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at the residence in the 6000 block of US 29 North in Questeta to check on James’ wife.

After officers arrived on the scene, they found Quentinna James, 42, also unresponsive. Harris said Quentinna James was shot and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Harris said it is unclear what caused the death, but investigators believe David James went to Lafayette after he shot his wife.

Both bodies were taken to the Alabama Department of Corrections in Montgomery for autopsy. The incident is under investigation by the Lee County Coroner’s Office, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office
