An Iowa man who is attempting to set the world record for the largest collection of birthday scenes is displaying his collection at a bank in Washington, Iowa.
More than 2,500 nativity scenes attributed to Michael Zach are currently on display at Hills Bank’s Washington location, local media outlet KCRG reported.
The display will run until January 2023.
“The bank is excited to have it, it’s definitely one of a kind and we look forward to people coming to see it,” Janelle Johnson, the bank’s vice president who helped set up the display, said in an email .

“It’s a great way to bring joy to people in our community,” he added.
It took six weeks to install the display, Zahs told KCRG, noting that he started collecting nativity scenes in the 1950s.
Michael Sachs has collected over 2,500 nativity sets from 100 different countries. His collections are currently on display in Washington, Iowa.

Scenes came from more than 100 different countries, he said.
Most of them are handmade.
Zachs enjoys the fact that each scene contains different details related to the story of the birth of Jesus Christ, he said.
“I like people to come and look at the details,” he told KCRG. “You can look at the exhibition for the verse part of it, you can look at the materials, the artwork.”

“Some of them are very historic,” he added.
According to the Guinness World Records website, the current record for the largest collection of birth kits is 1,802.

This record was set by Andrea Andrigetti on March 14, 2009.
The record notes that the collections are now at the Museo dei Sogni e Della Memoria in Feltre, northern Italy.

The record for “Largest Birthday Statues” was set on December 1, 2020 by the Ayuntamiento de Alicante (City Hall of Alicante) in Alicante, Spain.
That Nativity scene features a 59-foot, 2.6-inch statue of Joseph and a 34-foot, 8.9-inch statue of Mary.
On December 11, 2011, Oasis Church in Pembroke Pines, Florida set the world record for the “Largest Display of Birthday Kits”.
Baby Jesus was 13 feet, 4.6 inches long and depicted in a manger.

Artist Jacinto creates an annual birthday display that can be viewed by the public from November to March each year.

Although nativity sets feature only Jesus, Mary, and Joseph—perhaps with an angel, shepherd, or other figure—the world record for “Most Living Figures in a Nativity Scene” is 2,101.
The city government of San Jose del Monte, located in Bulacan, Philippines, set this record on December 20, 2019.
