Leah Shaffer discusses the fun and challenges that come with dating someone famous in an exclusive 2020 interview with Showbiz Cheat Sheet. Shaffer has dated Captain Sandy Yawn below deck mediterranean for almost two years and spoke openly about life with Yawn.

Shafer said that it is difficult to go anywhere without being recognized. “We can be out in public and suddenly someone yells, ‘Oh my god, Captain Sandy!’ I didn’t exist at that time and I was just some girl standing there,” laughed Shafer.

“I would say the hard part is constantly watching your every move so that you don’t offend anyone,” she admitted. “I’m used to being a gospel artist anyway. I was constantly judged and seen. He suffered surgery without a yawn on his side. “I couldn’t sleep, worried about all this and I would miss Sandy for seven weeks,” Shaffer said. “She is my strength in many ways and questions, and is so protective of me, it would be hard not to have her, yet it’s a wonderful faith-building process. Sandy and I always keep God at the center.” Shaffer had a successful surgery and is cancer free.
