“We both had, I would say, like, a little bit of a rebound relationship” podcast
Stiller, who was this week’s guest star, agreed that he started by chance.
“We weren’t taking it seriously,” Stiller, 57, said.
The “Zoolander” star explained to the audience that he met his now-wife on the set of the 1999 TV pilot “Hate Vision and Jake.”
“We had a lot of fun making the show and then Christine and I connected and then I went on to do a film. [‘Keeping the Faith’] in New York and I invited him to hang out,” Stiller said.
Taylor said she accepted their invitation and “stayed all summer.” The couple embarked on a whirlwind romance and tied the knot in 2000 after only a year of dating.
However, their marriage was not without its difficulties. Stiller and Taylor announced their separation in May 2017 after 17 years of marriage.
“We broke up and got back together and we’re happy about it,” Stiller told Esquire at the time. “It’s been really great for all of us. Unexpected, and one of the things that comes out of the pandemic.
They share two children together: daughter Ella, 20, and son Quinlan, 17. He has also acted in several films including “Zoolander,” “Tropic Thunder” and “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story.”
Before falling for each other, Stiller dated several actresses, including Jane Triplehorn, Calista Flockhart and Amanda Peet.
Meanwhile, the actress dated Neil Patrick Harris for a year before ending things in 1988.
In 2006, the “How I Met Your Mother” star publicly came out as gay and later credited Taylor with helping him accept his sexuality.
“She’s the best, nicest girl ever. She’s an absolute catch, and I thought, ‘If I don’t feel a great spark with her … it probably means I’m gay.’ ,'” Harris said on “The Howard Stern Show” in 2008.
Taylor also dated her podcast co-host — and former “Hey Dude” co-star — David Lascher when they were teenagers.
The young actors were in a relationship during the filming of the Nickelodeon comedy, which ran from 1989 to 1991. Since then, they have become good friends and often joke about their romantic history.
