The White House has invited Marti Gould Cummings, a non-binary drag queen who has repeatedly attacked police online, to attend Tuesday’s signing ceremony for the Respect for Marriage Act.
Cummings thanked President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden and shared an image of the digital invitation in a social media post on Monday. “Being a non-binary drag artist invited to the White House is something I never imagined would happen,” Cummings tweeted. “Thank you to the President and Dr. Biden for inviting me to sign this historic bill. I cannot express my gratitude.”
Cummings is a “drag artist, television personality and political figure” based in New York City, according to his website. The site added that Cummings “has become a regular fixture” in the city’s nightlife scene, regularly performing six shows a week.

In 2020, Cummings unsuccessfully campaigned for a seat on the New York City Council, where defunding the police was part of the campaign platform.

Earlier this year, Cummings tweeted his support for “ACAB Coffee”, a cafe that theoretically does not serve police officers. ACAB is short for “all cops b——“.
“It still pays the police and invests in the community for me! Funding paramilitary police for education, housing, mental health, parks, free transportation is insane,” Cummings tweeted in March. “Let’s invest in people!”

Meanwhile, the White House is aiming to move away from the “police neutralization” movement during the Biden presidency. In February, Biden said at an event at the New York Police Department that “the answer is not to pay the police.”
According to a March 2019 video shared on Cummings’ tweet, discovered by The Daily Signal, Cummings also performed a drag act while singing “Baby Shark” to a small boy.
“Anyone who thinks drag isn’t for kids is wrong,” Cummings tweeted after posting the video. “Drag is about expression and kids are such judgmental creatures; they don’t care what you’re wearing, just what you’re doing.”
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
