Biden slammed for comments dismissing border crisis: ‘Tell that to the Border Patrol’


Critics slammed President Biden on Tuesday after he claimed there were “more important things going on” when asked why he didn’t visit the southern border during a trip to Arizona.

Fox News’ Peter Ducey asked the president why he doesn’t plan to travel to the border to tour the state’s Phoenix semiconductor plant.

“Because there are more important things going on,” Biden replied. “They want to invest billions of dollars in a new venture.”

Biden’s comments drew criticism on Twitter.

“Tell that to the Border Patrol,” said John Cooper of the Heritage Foundation.

The Border Guards Union also reacted to the news and compared it to the president’s visit to an ice cream shop.

“Visit the ice cream shop: essential,” they wrote. “Visit our border, where illegal immigration, deaths, escapes and fentanyl smuggling have set new records without stopping, resulting in thousands of deaths: Not important.”

Rep. Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-TX., listed several concerns about the southern border and said it was not on Biden’s “priority” list.

BIDEN UNDER NEW DEM PRESSURE FOR BIG MOVE ON MEXICO BORDER

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Monday that the president had no plans to visit the border during his trip.

“He will visit TSMC, a company that is investing heavily in advanced chip manufacturing in Phoenix. This will bring new jobs and economic opportunities to Arizona,” Jean-Pierre said at a news conference. “And that’s largely because of the chips and the law of science.”

“Committee Republicans have seen the border with their own eyes. It is a national security and humanitarian disaster,” they wrote in response to the comments.

House Judiciary Republicans echoed the sentiment, asking on Twitter why the president is “afraid to go to the border.”

In a statement from the White House, President Biden is working to secure the border, but is also focusing on the US economy.

“The president has made it clear that investing in the American economy and American communities is about leaving China behind and bringing American jobs back from overseas. Jean-Pierre also claimed that Republicans are playing “political stunts” over the border.

He said President Biden was at the border last week, although his visit was not recorded.
