Blake Shelton quits ‘The Voice’ to focus on parenting with Gwen Stefani: ‘I take it very seriously’

Blake Shelton treats Gwen Stefani’s sons like his own.

“Even though I’m a stepparent, I take it very seriously,” she told People magazine. “The children see me as a very important person in their lives.”

Shelton recently announced that he is stepping down as a coach after season 23 of NBC’s The Voice.

“If I quit my career now, the only thing I would risk is regretting missing out on the more important things in life. For now, it’s our kids. That’s not what it’s about. I won’t be now and never again.” , she said of transitioning to a less work-based life.

Stefani and Shelton met on The Voice and began dating in 2015. They got engaged in October 2020 and married in July 2021.

The 46-year-old country crooner was previously married to country musician Miranda Lambert from 2011-15. From 2003-06, Shelton was married to Kaynette Williams.

Stephanie, 53, was married to rocker Gavin Rossdale from 2002-16, and filed for divorce in 2015.

They have three sons: Kingston, 16; Zuma, 14; and Apollo, 8.

According to Shelton, her stepchildren taught me something about myself that I never knew: I’m not just a country singer or a dumb guy. I’m actually the person they rely on and it’s not a responsibility I’ve ever had or anything. I even considered going into it.”

“It’s a different kind of self-esteem,” the country singer added. “Maybe it’s counter-intuitive, because you put yourself on the ladder and they climb ahead of you.”

Children directly influenced Shelton’s career decisions, he explained:[When they ask], “Why isn’t Blake here?” I take these things to heart. I made a lot of money, but you can’t get time back. I don’t want any regrets.”

Shelton says he enjoys spending time with his family in Oklahoma, away from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood.

“We walk away from everything [in L.A.]and we just We. It’s a really different feeling,” she added. “I feel the most comfortable, happiest and safest.”
