SIOUX CITY () – A board made up of Woodbury County mayors, the Board of Supervisors and representatives of the Sioux City Community School Board voted Tuesday night on a proposal to raise Supervisor Julie Connolly’s salary by 7.5 percent.
He also voted on a proposal to give his staff a 4.5% raise.
Connelly argued that he previously took lower raises in the previous budget cycle so that his staff could get raises.
He noted the statewide shortage of county assessors and his own experience in the office.
“Even with this increase, my portion of the levy will still be reduced. I’m very fiscally responsible. I don’t spend money where it’s not needed, I don’t use an attorney and I need an attorney. There’s no need,” Connolly said.
Connelly said he was pleased with the proposed increase. He added that counties and municipalities are left without an assessor because they have to hire outside services.
A public forum on Connolly’s proposed pay raise will be held on the 8th floor of the Woodbury County Courthouse on February 28 at 6 p.m.
