Ten people were shot in two separate shootings on Wednesday evening in the North Lawndale section on Chicago’s West Side, spaced about five minutes apart.
Police said five people were shot at around 6:05 pm in the first shooting and five more people, including three teenagers, were shot three blocks away in the second.
All the victims are being treated in hospitals. The condition of two is said to be serious.
Police said they do not know whether the shootings are related, but the investigation does not appear to be linked, Deputy Chief Ernest Cato said during a press briefing on Wednesday night.

‘I have come here to bring you some news; Some news that we are tired of hearing,’ Kato said during a press briefing on Wednesday night.
“It’s becoming an effort where we need all kinds of pragmatic approaches,” Cato said. ‘That approach is involving our community … Our community that has cell phone photos, that has Facebook information, we’re going to need your help.’
Police did not release any other details.

Gun violence will plague Chicago in 2021, as are most metropolitan cities across the country.
According to the latest crime data from Chicago Police, there have been 1802 shootings so far in 2021, a nine percent increase from the previous year and a 60 percent increase from 2019.
During the 4th of July weekend alone, 92 people were shot and 16 killed in the city. Last weekend, 56 people were shot and 11 died.
