Cheryl Griner, the wife of Brittney Griner, has spoken out for the first time since the WNBA star returned to the U.S. from Russia last week in a prisoner exchange — saying the couple is now on a “healing journey” from the 10-month ordeal. .
In an Instagram post on Sunday, Cheryl shared an emotional message thanking the many supporters who supported her in letting go of her Olympic gold medal.
“My heart overflowed yesterday because of the combined efforts of MANY! I was humiliated by their hearts” Cherelle wrote.
“Caring to be a stranger to some and a friend to others is humanity in its purest form,” he continued.
“As BG and I begin our journey to heal our minds, bodies and spirits, I wanted to personally thank some hands; Seen and unseen, it helped me see my wife again! Cherelle added.
He listed many politicians, celebrities, athletes and organizations in his post.
Among them were Democratic US Representative Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas, the Rev. Al Sharpton, Good Morning America host Robin Roberts and CBS Mornings host Gayle King.
He thanked the Biden administration and the Office of the President’s Special Representative for Hostages for their efforts to exchange Britney for the international arms dealer Victor Booth.

Cherelle also expressed her gratitude to “44 civil and human rights organizations, especially those representing Black women (*Win with Black Women)) and organizations representing LGBTQ+ people, who helped demonstrate the strength of our coalition.

Brittney and his wife remain at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, where the Olympic gold medalist is undergoing routine checkups.
“He received a lot of psychological help,” his agent, Lindsay Kagawa Colas, told CNN. “The resources are very strong. It’s very supportive and very BG-centric. It’s about her developing agency.
Griner also revealed that he will be back on the basketball court for the first time since being locked up with a dunk in the Texas baseline.
“I think the fact that he picked up the ball willingly and dunked in the first place … that was really encouraging,” Colas told CNN. “He was really excited.”
He added that Griner is healthy but hasn’t decided to return to the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury.
