Chelsea have been linked to a move for Juventus center back Matthijs De Ligt these last weeks. The Premier League giants will be looking to tighten things up at the back before the start of the next season. However, the deal for De Ligt seems unlikely at this point.
According to reports, the Blues withdrew from the player’s signing race as they failed to convince Juventus to approve their request. Chelsea have reportedly approached Juventus to inquire about De Ligt’s availability, but the Bianconeri have made it clear that the defender is not for sale.
Italian coach Massimiliano Allegri is back in the Allianz stadium dugout following the sacking of Andrea Pirlo last season. It looks like the tactician has big plans for the center-back before next season.
Meanwhile, sources claim Chelsea have turned their attention to yet another elite Serie A figure to improve their options at the heart of the defense. The Blues are reportedly considering making a move for Inter Milan’s Stefan de Vrij.
The Dutchman has been one of the best center-backs in Italy’s top flight over the past two years. He played an influential role for Inter last season. de Vrij put in a solid performance at the back as the Nerazzurri shattered Juventus’ streak by winning the Scudetto.
Stefan de Vrij has a contract with the Serie A champions until the summer of 2023. According to Transfermarkt, the center-back has a market value of € 50million. Not much is known about Chelsea’s interest in the Dutchman at the moment. If the Blues are serious in their approach, an offer should be submitted to Inter Milan in the coming days.
