Chicago police watchdog has recommended a three-day suspension for slain officer Ella French

Supervising Agency of the Chicago Police Department Recommended Ella French, a police officer killed in a traffic stop in August, has a three-day suspension.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability issued a report on Nov. 10, 2019, after Chicago police officers raided Angenette Young’s home. Fox 32 Chicago, 50-year-old Young, while undressing to sleep, police officers smashed the front door and executed a search warrant.

According to the article, Young was naked while police were searching for the suspect inside her home, which was several yards away.

Fox 32 Chicago In August, Young reported that French was the only police officer who showed “respect or respect” when executing a search warrant.

“The French officer was the only officer who showed any dignity or respect for Miss Young on the night of the attack,” Young said.

A civilian office of police accountability officer has mistaken French for turning off the body camera, along with failing to record a “arrest and search” of the man and his vehicle that same night.

“The COPA officer considered French’s supplementary history, his lack of prior disciplinary history, and his 3 years of service to the department, and his status as a PPO at the time of the mitigation incident. And failed to document the search. Accordingly, COPA recommends a 3-day suspension, “the report states.

In a statement to WGN, President of the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police, John Catanzara, urged the oversight agency to have “zero credibility” and apologize.

“This is just the latest example of why the agency has zero credibility in the eyes of every CPD officer,” Catanzara said. “We demand an immediate apology for the deliberate harm caused to all their family, friends and colleagues.”

A spokesman for the Civilian Office of Police Accountability told LBL that the report was completed in April and that city ordinances would prevent it from making amendments.

“A summary report of the COPA and the Chicago Police Department were completed on April 27, 2021, with an investigation into the attack on Mrs. Angenette Young’s residence.

For every eulogy (Chicago Municipal Code 2-78-145), COPA must release reports for public inspection. COPA may only transmit information to the extent that it is exempt from disclosure by the Freedom of Information Act or any other applicable law. The COPA released the report, which was previously completed on April 27, 2021, as required by the Superior Court.

Following a review and consent from the Chicago Police Department Superintendent, as well as the Administrative Charges Service, we have released the report and Ms. We have carefully considered its impact on the family of Angenette Young and Ella French.

“We value and appreciate the service rendered by Officer French to our city and hope the release of the report will bring further closure to Mrs Anjenet Young,” the spokesman said.
