Christina Applegate says SAG Awards may be ‘last awards show as an actor’

Christina Applegate continues to hint that she may be retiring from acting and that Jane Harding’s role in “Dead to Me” will be her last.

During a recent interview, Applegate opened up about how difficult it would be for her to film another TV show at this stage in her life.

“Right now, I couldn’t imagine getting up at 5 in the morning and spending 12 to 14 hours on set,” Applegate told the Los Angeles Times. “I just don’t have that in me right now.”

Applegate has been nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for her role in “Dead to Me” and when talking about the show, she revealed that “this will be my last award as an actor. show, so it’s a big deal.”

The actress announced in August 2021 that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS).

Applegate has been candid about how difficult it was for her to film the final season of the popular Netflix show after she was diagnosed during production.

Applegate said on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” in December 2022, “Filming the show was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life because I was diagnosed while shooting, and I didn’t know it was going to be mine. Getting along.” I could not walk. They had to use a wheelchair to seat me. I was freaking out until someone said, ‘You need an MRI.’

Applegate recalled having to call everyone she worked with to inform them of her diagnosis, praising the way her illness was handled.

“If I called them in the morning and was like, ‘Guys, I can’t get down the stairs,’ they were like, ‘OK! We’re not going to do it today. We’re going to do other things.’ Netflix even let us take a break for a few months so I could grieve and find healing,” Applegate told Variety in November 2022.

While her role on the show earned her Critics’ Choice Award and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations this year, Applegate revealed to the Los Angeles Times that she was unable to enjoy watching the final season.

“I don’t like seeing myself struggling. I gained 40 pounds from inactivity and medication, and I didn’t look like myself, and I didn’t feel like myself,” she said. “At some point I was able to detach myself from my ego and realize what a beautiful piece of television this is. All the scenes that I wasn’t in I got to see and experience for the first time. It was so much fun.”
