Clay Aiken announced his run as a Democrat for the North Carolina Congress

Former “American Idol” runner-up Clay Aiken is making a second bid for Congress in his home state of North Carolina.

After a failed bid for the US House of Representatives in 2014, Aiken will run as a Democrat in the 6th Congressional District. Currently, Aiken’s running district includes Chapel Hill and other Orange County communities, along with Apex, Morrisville, most of Carrie and Raleigh.

However, The fox 8 Reports that the situation remains fluid as a 3-judge panel in Wake County Circuit Court ruled Tuesday that the General Assembly is trying to question how the General Assembly has drawn maps to 14 congressional seats and the state Senate.

As a result, Aiken and other promoters cannot formally submit to their races. However, this did not stop the former “American Idol” contestant from launching his campaign mission with video on social media.

Aiken opens Video By observing that his life has changed in the 20 years since he made his debut in the singing competition.

“I came home, I got out, I became a father. Nowadays, my life looks more like you than Justin Bieber, I can assure you,” he says in the video. “But one thing that has never changed for me is how much I love my hometown. North Carolina is a place I discovered before and it’s a voice that can be used more than just singing.”

“These people are taking all the oxygen in the room and I have to tell you, I’m sick,” he continues. “As democrats, we need to be better at talking and using our voice because those people won’t be quiet any time soon. That’s why I’m running for Congress, raising me here and in this community where I first found that voice.”

The singer-turned-politician described her candidacy as advocating “climate change, systematic racism, income inequality, gun violence” and dedicated herself to “voting rights, free health care and the right of women to choose.”

“We are going to solve the country’s big problems and protect our most valuable rights,” he adds.

Aiken concludes by pointing out that if elected, he will be openly-gay congressmen from the South.

“If the most vocal and hateful voices think they speak on our behalf, tell them I’m warming up the old vocal cords,” he says at the end of the video.

Aiken previously ran against Republican Renee Elmers in 2014 but eventually lost the race in the 2nd District by 18 points.
