Connecticut mother hails hero who saved daughter from raccoon attack: ‘I sprang into action’

Logan McNamara was waiting for the school bus on the front porch when he heard his daughter Riley scream in terror. When McNamara ran outside to find a raccoon attacking Riley, her motherly instincts kicked in.

A Connecticut mother is now being hailed as a hero.

MacNamara recounted the incident on “Fox & Friends” on Tuesday, saying she initially thought Riley had injured her hand in the doorway.

“I never thought in a million years that he would have a rabid animal at his feet,” said McNamara host Ainsley Ehrhardt.

A video of the incident, which has since gone viral, shows Ryle standing on the front door step and screaming as the raccoon pounces on his leg. McNamara then opened the door and pulled the animal from her daughter before throwing it into the yard.

“I ran and moved,” he said.

The raccoon also briefly attached itself to McNamara’s shirt. In the video, she can be seen trying to get Ryle inside the house, but she explained that she was fighting to keep the family’s dogs out while holding the raccoon.

He said the two died of minor injuries and both were receiving rabies shots.

“We’ve had a couple of scrapes,” he said. “[Rylee] he’s got a couple of puncture wounds on his leg, but it definitely could have been a lot worse.”

However, despite his efforts, the raccoon was still not found.

“We tried to find him. Outside of it we have a trap[‘s] still empty. “We haven’t caught anything yet,” he said.

McNamara credited her “maternal instinct” for her quick reaction and ability to fend off the raccoon.

“When you hear your child screaming like that, it doesn’t matter what’s going on, you save your child,” he said.
