Dave Grohl wants to live his childhood, his career, and never live with animals

During their live concerts, Dave Grohl The clock keeps the timer on the side of the stage. This is not so, he can count the minutes until his set is over. Contrary to fact. He has a clock to stop playing for one, two, three hours on his scheduled time.

This entertaining tidbit of information is just one of many information contained in the newly published senior rock and roller commemorative episode titled The Storyteller.

She calls me in the morning after starting a self-written solo show with her during the flashing Savoy Theater in London. “I had drafted and written it a few days back and wanted to keep it really loose,” he said with his instantly recognizable, throbbing thunder. “Because I’ll do it.”

The event will deliver a series of vignettes from Grohl’s book. He lists his childhood Washington, DC The rise of his fame as a drummer Nirvana The tragic death of the singer Kurt Cobain And his continued success with stadium rockers Foo Fighters. At one point, he pulls out a drum kit and fits into the recording of smells like a teen spirit.

“I was afraid I wasn’t going to say enough – and I feel like I said too much,” he says with a loud laugh.

Not surprisingly, Grohl’s performance took place over time despite the presence of a clock beside the stage.

The 52-year-old is releasing her memoir, Turning to Nevermind, a grunge promoter, Nirvana’s beloved second album, 30.

But the narrator focuses less on narrative sweep and more on individual moments, which tell the bigger picture through his charming, lively delivery.

The idea for the book originated from an Instagram account – Dave’s True Stories – which he started during the epidemic. “My mother was always very supportive and encouraged me to follow my own path,” she tells me of her youth in Washington DC.

“My father was a conservative Republican speaker, so I don’t know if he understood my child like that.

“My mother is a public school teacher, I think she understands how children learn, how children grow, the idea of independence and the intersection of identity and becoming yourself.

“These are things my mother meant. My father, not so much.

“My father thought I would take the traditional route through life, where I would go through four years of high school, four years in college, get a job, have a wife, have some kids.

“But I don’t know if I even considered it when I was young. I think I haven’t considered that traditional path.

His father was also a classically trained flutist who abandoned equipment when he could not practice for four hours a day.

It was Grohl’s own approach to music from most DIY measurements. “For me, it doesn’t register in my mind,” he says. “So when I thought it was time to go on with life and wander around the world playing music, he disagreed. But it was okay for me. I was right. I don’t need his approval to do that.”

Storytellers lined up at Grohl’s cult hardcore band Scream before examining the stratospheric rise of Nirvana’s international fame.

“Nobody paid attention to us,” he recalls of his four-year frontman Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic.

“Bless all the people on the labels. We love them. They are great.

“We were really just three young guys in the van. They wrote a few songs and booked about 12 days at the Rundown Studios in the San Fernando Valley – Sound City.

“The studio we were recording didn’t come from the label. When we were recording, nobody paid attention.

“According to the original press, I think it sold 6,000 copies in the first week. But when the video hit MTV, everything started to explode. I think people have faith.

“Of course, Kurt was writing these amazing songs, and he had listened to the demos – he knew what kind of band we were. So I think they left us to do the work that we do with Butch Wig production. And everyone was really surprised by the result.

The success came with financial stability, a life Grohl has never had in his life since leaving Scream when he was a teenager.

“The most difficult part for the band is accepting the fact that we are now selling millions and millions and millions of records. And to be completely honest, I had no problem with that.

As a drummer, of course, I was neither the spokesman nor front man of the band. I never thought of it as a blessing or a luxury. I no longer have to work in a furniture warehouse. I don’t have to worry about where my next carndog is coming from.

Grohl writes eloquently about the death of Cobain, who committed suicide in 1994, the dissolution of Nirvana, and the period of soul searching.

The book does nothing to dispel his reputation as the best man on rock, but it adds subtlety.

“I’m usually a happy, positive, hopeful person,” he explains. “I try to be minimal. I can understand catharsis or releases in chaotic moments. That’s one of the things that attracted me and the other guys in the band to punk rock.

“It’s really about the release of energy and it’s raw and powerful and pure.

“But yeah, breaking the guitar or jumping into the drum set can be a celebration, or it can be a sign of crisis. And just the intuition thing, to measure what it is.”

As a father of three daughters, he has his own fears about the challenges young musicians face today.

“Let’s put it this way,” he says. “Whenever I see a young artist become a late-night celebrity, my initial reaction is concern because it’s a really hard way to navigate.

“When that happens you have to put your feet on the ground, otherwise it will drive you.

“We’re definitely not equipped or capable of skating through that experience. It’s going to be a lot of challenges. And it did.”

The narrator is full of dramatic highs and lows. But it also contains hilarious stories.

In the early days of Nirvana, Grohl went to Cobain’s filthy Seattle apartment and slept next to the stinky smell tank with the singer’s cute turtle, which would slap his head every night.

“Listen, I love turtles,” he says. “I love all animals. But I will never live with one. Of course not.”
