Dead, frozen shark found on Cape Cod beach during cold spell

A dead, partially frozen shark washed up on an icy beach in Cape Cod, Massachusetts over the weekend.

Around 2:30 in the afternoon a local photographer stumbled upon it while strolling along the beach, aptly named Cold Storage Beach.

Photographer Amy Medeiros took a photo of the shark lying on its side on the icy sand and shared it on Instagram.

He commented that the frozen animal was “not what I expected to find on my frozen winter adventure”.

The large fish, believed to be a porbeagle shark, may have died from an injury to its side. Photos of Medeiros show that he has gashes on top of his wings.

According to the National Weather Service, parts of the carcass, as well as most of the coast, are covered in snow as temperatures in the area drop below freezing.

Shark sightings in Cape Cod waters increase during the summer as people flock to the beaches of the popular vacation spot. Beaches on the east coast were closed due to sightings and even some minor attacks.
