Democratic lawmaker says Twitter censorship gone too far: ‘This is not what we do in this country’

Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., continued to defend the First Amendment on “America’s Newsroom” Friday after the second installment of Elon Musk’s “Twitter Files” revealed that the platform secretly “blacklisted” certain tweets and users. In a first report by reporter Matt Taibbi, an email from Hanna to the congressman showed concern about the New York Post’s actions on Twitter to suppress Hunter Biden stories.

ELON MUSK FLASHES ADAM SCHIFF’S ‘FALSE’ HATE SPEECH CLAIMS ON TWITTER.

RO KHANNA: It’s problematic… they’re effectively modern public space and they shouldn’t be engaged in censorship. Now it’s one thing for them to say, “Don’t put up sensational pictures of Hunter Biden.” I understand that. But should the New York Post be censored? Look, The New York Post hasn’t written a positive story about me in my six years in Congress. But I wouldn’t dream of telling them to shut them down or not allow them to publish articles. I mean, that’s the whole point of democracy. And we must stand up for the First Amendment.

I don’t think you want antisemitism or racism on these sites. But my understanding is that it goes beyond that. Not only do they destroy speech, they are hateful. And Elon Musk said he wants to undo it. They are censoring based on point of view. And that’s not what we do in this country.

But my understanding is that it goes beyond that. Not only do they destroy speech, they are hateful. And Elon Musk said he wants to undo it. They are censoring based on point of view. And that’s not what we do in this country.
