Simeon claimed he was monitoring Messi’s situation and contacted Suarez, who was a close friend of PSG and played with him in Barcelona.
He said to Ole, “I have not called Leo, but I have called Louis to ask him how Messi is.
“It lasted three hours, because PSG had already made up its mind to sign him.
“So the opportunity to work with Messi never came. He’s always been at Barca [before joining PSG], I was at Atletico and we did not fit in as a player on the Argentina national team.
The 51-year-old Argentinean head coach believes that Barcelona and Los Blancos’ ability to challenge Los Blancos for major silverware could attract Messi to sign Spain’s defending champions.
“If you ask me where Messi should play, I’ll tell you which team you want to win,” Simeon said.
“In a team that knows what it takes to win, it doesn’t matter what position he plays in; the important thing is that the team is set up to win.
“Don’t think of him. Think of the team.”
Asked if he had any contact with Messi, Simeon said: “No, nothing; it’s like seeing a plane going up in the sky.”
