Disgraced FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried has been arrested in the Bahamas after specific charges were filed in the US.

Disgraced crypto kingpin Sam Bankman-Fried was arrested by authorities in the Bahamas on Monday night after a criminal case was filed in the US.

The 30-year-old was arrested after the Bahamian government received formal notice from the United States of the charges against him, according to the Bahamas Attorney General’s Office.

U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams confirmed Bankman-Fried’s arrest, but did not say what charges had been filed.

“This evening, Bahamian authorities arrested Samuel Bankman-Fried at the request of the US government based on a sealed indictment filed by the SDNY,” Williams tweeted.

“We expect to move to file an indictment in the morning and will have more to say at that time.”

Bahamian authorities are expected to help extradite Bankman-Fried to the United States, the attorney general’s office said.

The shaggy-haired ex-billionaire witnessed the collapse of his empire when the FTX exchange assets collapsed and imploded.

“The Bahamas and the United States have a shared interest in bringing to justice all those involved in FTX who betrayed the public trust and violated the law,” Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Davis said after the arrest.
