Aljamin Sterling found himself on the receiving end of another brutal knee, but the UFC bantamweight champion could laugh about it.
Sterling took to Twitter on Monday night to share some photos of the horrific cut on her lower lip, which was caused by a knee injury during a recent training session. The ‘funk master’ wondered if he should get stitches for the cut, which he finally did on Tuesday afternoon.
Sterling joked that the stitches he received could delay his return to the Octagon until 2023.
“Stitch or not?” Sterling tweeted. “The first roll of the night. With courtesy… you guessed it! Another knee to the face. I won’t kneel it now! ”

Sterling became the first fighter in UFC history to win a championship by disqualification after he was struck in the head by Petr Yan at a meeting at UFC 259 last May. Due to controversy arising from the ending sequence, Sterling and Yan were expected to replay at UFC 267 a few months later in October. However, the Serra-Longo Fight Team star may not be able to make a rematch since he is still dealing with some nervous issues after his recent neck surgery.
Instead of postponing the fight with Sterling again, Yan stayed in the pay-per-view event and defeated the short-notice substitute in Sandhagen by demanding a unanimous decision for the newly created interim championship.
Sterling has previously said he intends to consolidate the titles by February or March of next year, but it has not yet been confirmed.
