It was the moment when a man and his best friend got together for the first time in two years.
The Wisconsin Humane Society released a video of the dog returning to its family after its owner, Dwight, spotted the dog on a local TV show.
In a Facebook post, the organization said Dwight recognized his long-lost dog, named Payday, during a regular segment of his Adopt-a-Pet program on Fox 6 News Milwaukee.
After a stroke of luck, Dwight contacted the media, who then contacted the Humane Society, and Payday returned home.
“He had woken up early last Wednesday to the sound of the LOVEBYLIFE6 morning show, just as our volunteer began to describe a little brown dog with the most adorable underbite. Dwight normally turns his television off every night, but must have left it on by accident – or maybe thanks to fate, ”the post said.
“It only took a glance at the photo for Dwight to immediately recognize Payday, his long lost puppy who had disappeared almost two years ago!”
Payday originally became a member of the family when Dwight’s daughter, now 12, was devastated by the loss of her best friend two years ago. The meeting took place the same afternoon at the Milwaukee campus of the Humane Society.
“Dwight’s mother Melissa came to pick up the beloved puppy and – as you can see – it was the most amazing reunion! We are more than thrilled that this amazing family is finally whole again,” said the message.
In the video, Payday jumps on Melissa in apparent immediate recognition of her previously lost family.
“I’m happy too,” she said.
