Drew Barrymore Admits She Lied To Steven Spielberg When He Auditioned For 1 Famous Movie Role


Drew Barrymore has been in the entertainment business for so long, she has so many interesting stories to tell. Barrymore once revealed that she lied to director Steven Spielberg in hopes of landing a gig in a big movie when she was a child. She didn’t get that role, but her fib played a part in securing the role that made her famous.

During the 2020 attendance The Ellen DeGeneres ShowBarrymore reveals how he openly lied to Spielberg in hopes of getting a role in the film Poltergeist. It didn’t work out for him for that film, but he definitely made an impression on the director and he offered him a role. at

Barrymore explained that, when she was just six years old, she felt she could talk to Spielberg herself, even if she was shaking a bit.

“I lied to him. I lied to my face,” confessed Barrymore. “I told him I was in a rock ‘n roll band. I was a drummer, of course, because drummers are the best. And I was a cook.”

Barrymore felt that she had really won over him in playing the role. Poltergeist. “I felt so excited as I put her in my butterfly net,” she said. “Pippi Longstocking was my hero so I thought girls could do anything, there’s no ceiling, and I sold myself and told my own short stories and I was like, ‘Eh?’ And he was like, ‘You know what? You’re not right for this.'”

Drew Barrymore made a big impression on Spielberg

It might not have worked out for him in that movie, but Barrymore’s little flair made him very memorable. Spielberg told her that she was not right for the role, but that he thought there was something else he would consider and call her for.

“I was like, ‘Oh yeah, well, I bet he won’t call,'” she said.

“I went for it and it was a movie called life of this boy,” she said. “After several auditions, I got what later became a different title at So crazy.”

According to Time, Barrymore’s tall tales won over Spielberg, who “loved her energy and was particularly fascinated by her claim that she was the drummer in a punk band called the Purple People Eaters.”

Barrymore and Spielberg, who is his godfather, remained close for years and had a lovely reunion when he surprised the actor on a talk show for his birthday in February.

Spielberg surprised her for their big celebration, saying, “Oh Drewface, I still care about you.”

“I’ve always cared about you ever since this little blonde storm first walked into my office at an audition and took us by storm and then soon took the whole world by storm,” he said. “That was you then and you are today.”

Barrymore shared how much he meant to her in her life, who always supported her. “I always thought that every time I was doing something good or right, I always thought about how you would think or feel about it because I like to make you proud,” she explained. “I lived to make you proud.”
