Durden does not apologize for the controversial UFC Vegas 43 post-war comments

Stunned is a great way to explain UFC commentator Daniel Cormier’s reaction to Cody Durden’s last comment in a post-fight interview after his victory over Aoriqileng in the preliminary match at UFC Vegas 43.

After asking Durden whether you think Aricileng was a tougher opponent than he thought, Durden replied, “I knew he was going to be tough, but I had to take him back to China where he came from.”

The comment brought some laughter and applause from the crowd inside the UFC Apex, but it sounded more like a nod to Durden’s approval of his opponent from China.

Cormier gave a nervous laugh and ended the interview.

In the broadcast, Cormier’s partner, Brendan Fitzgerald, was tongue-tied when Cormier threw things back into the broadcast table.

“Well, Cody Durden, um, I guess the statement?” Fitzgerald said. “Victory in the Octagon for this flyweight from Georgia.”

When Cormier returned to his seat, he made his dislike of Durden’s statement clear.

“Fitzy, I was watching the headlines as he said it, so you know, you say, I’ll take the microphone, Fitzy,” Cormier explained. “I have nothing else to do there.”

Durden Statement She was reprimanded by fans, media and fighters On social media.

When asked what he said during his post-fight media appearance, Durden defied and complied with his statement, sending a message to those who questioned his statement and intent.

“If they don’t like it, do something,” Durden said (by the way.) MMA Fighting) “Sign the agreement. This is not important to me. I said what I said and that’s what it is. ”

Durden’s battle shortened after he left the stage. He gave a half-hearted “apology” and a “reason” for his lashes on social media.

Of course, any apology that includes the phrase “If I offended anyone …” is not much apology. Blame for offended people comes more.

Bloody Elbow reached out to ESPN, UFC and Aoriqileng for comment. This story will be updated if / when we receive a reply.
