Dustin Poirier may be dark rivals with Conor McGregor but ‘The Diamond’ admits ‘The Notorious’ is a ‘special man’ in the world of war.
Fourier, who defeated McGregor in a first-round TKO (doctor stop) at UFC 264 to close out his trilogy 2-1, claimed that the Irishman was no doubt the toughest puncher he faced.
“Conor McGregor, there’s no doubt about it. As the biggest puncher I’ve ever fought? Yes, he’s definitely a special guy,” Patrick told Bet-David in a recent interview.h / t Sports Kida) “In 2014 he fought, lost and then his path was just … the sky was the limit. He was going up and he tore it all and became a two-weight world champion. But yeah I fought him twice this year … still the same, very dangerous . ”
McGregor, 33, is best known for his left-handed punch, which Tristar head coach Firaz Zahabi referred to as ‘a touch of death’. Former Cage Warriors and UFC two-division champions Porrier slept with his left hand in the 2014 Featherweight Matchup at UFC 178 but lost the next two games through TKO.
McGregor broke his leg in the trilogy and is expected to be away for next year. Meanwhile, Poirier will face Brazilian Charles Oliveira for a lighter title at UFC 269 on December 11 at the TBA venue.
