Emily Blunt clarified that she was “not offended” by Tom Cruise’s crude advice on the set of The Day After Tomorrow.
The 39-year-old actress called Cruise’s reaction to telling her to “stop being so weird—-” “absurd.”
“It’s funny that it’s being spun as something that upsets me,” Blunt told E! New in statement. “It didn’t happen. I shared the story very simply, as Tom told me.”
Blunt noted that the “Top Gun: Maverick” star is a “dear friend” of hers.

“I love Tom so much, he’s a dear friend and he’s been an absolute gem to me,” she said. “It was meant as a joke to make me laugh, which it did in a big way. And it’s something we still laugh about.”
Before her role in The Day After Tomorrow alongside Cruise, Blunt was known for films such as The Devil Wears Prada and The Five Year Engagement.
“It was my first foray into the movement and as Tom said incredulously when we started it: ‘This is the end of the movement for me.’ And I was like, ‘If that’s what you’re saying, then we’re in trouble,'” he recalled on the Smartless podcast.
“We had to wear these really huge robot suits, which I think would have been great if they had CGI, but we wanted to do it in a practical and sensitive way,” he said.
“When you hear the word tactile, you think nice and cozy. There was no comfort in wearing these suits.”
Wearing the costume made Blunt “a little nervous” and she started crying during the shoot.

“He just looked at me and said, ‘I know, I know,’ and I was like, ‘I don’t know how I’m going to get through this shoot,’ and I started crying,” she said. . I thought, “I’m panicking a little during the whole shoot.”
“He literally goes, he just stares at me for a long time and he’s like, ‘Come on, stop being such an idiot—-, okay?’
Blunt added: “I laughed, and then we did it.”
“Edge of Tomorrow” was released in theaters on May 28, 2014. Other cast members included Bill Paxton, Brendan Gleeson, Charlotte Riley and Jonas Armstrong.
