Fairfax Co. Aquatics instructors face 30 felony child pornography and solicitation charges

Fairfax County, Virginia, aquatics instructors are facing more than two dozen child pornography charges, including tens of thousands of vivid images and videos of children in their online Dropbox account, police said.

Fairfax County, Virginia, aquatics instructors are facing more than two dozen child pornography charges, including tens of thousands of vivid images and videos of children in their online Dropbox account, police said.

Fairfax County police said in a news release that 21-year-old Brendan Lynch of Alexandria was arrested Monday. He is charged with four counts of solicitation of a minor and 26 counts of possessing child pornography. Allegations are crimes.

Lynch has worked as an aquatics instructor for the Fairfax County Park Authority since 2015 and has worked at several rec centers.

However, after a preliminary review of the evidence, police said that so far, none of the identified victims were from Fairfax County or related to their work as a swim instructor.

Police said they began their investigation last month after they were shown illegal pictures uploaded to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s Dropbox Account, which later belonged to Lynch.

Detectives obtained a search warrant at Lynch’s Alexandria home last week and recovered several electronic devices, which contained illegal images and videos.

Police found that Lynch contacted the teenage boys through social media and dating sites such as Snchat, Instagram and Grindr, and requested the teen to send photos and videos.

Lynch is being held without bond at the Adult Detention Center.

Lieutenant Stephen Wallace, with Fairfax County Police, called the sheer number of images in Lynch’s accounts confusing and surprising.

“One message we want to convey to parents is to make sure they know who their children are interacting with on the Internet,” she said.

In a statement Tuesday morning, Fairfax County Commonwealth’s attorney Steve Descano said his office’s priority is to investigate the case.

“We in Fairfax County do not tolerate individuals who hunt our youth and my office is always responsible for such heinous crimes,” he said in a statement. “My thoughts are with the victims and their families.”

John Doemen contributed to this report.
