Finn Wolfhard is showing his support for his “Stranger Things” co-star Noah Schnapp after he came out as gay last month.
“I had a big smile on my face when I saw it,” the 20-year-old told GQ in a new interview published Wednesday. “I was really proud of him.”
Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler on the popular Netflix series, said he and the rest of the cast work like a family.
“We’re by no means into the sounds of everyday text, and not because… that’s the way it is,” he explained. “Do you text your cousins every day? Probably not. They’re our family. We’ll talk on each other’s birthdays. We’ll talk once.
“But that’s the way family works, if I ever need anything, they’re there,” he said.
Wolfhard’s comments come nearly a month after Schnapp, 18, shared a TikTok video about her sexuality to her more than 32 million followers.
“When I finally told my friends and family I was gay after 18 years of being scared in the closet and they just said ‘we know,'” the “Abe” star said in the Jan. 5 clip. Wrote above.
Schnapp then mouthed the words of a woman who said, “You know it was never? That serious. It was never that serious. Quite frankly, will never be that serious.
“I guess I’m more like Will than I thought,” he captioned the post, referring to his “Stranger Things” character Will Byers.
The actor received a lot of praise from fans in the comments section of his upcoming video.
“I’m so happy for you!!!! 💗💗,” one person wrote, while another added, “Welcome to the joke club✨.”
“This is the most popular one ever,” commented a third fan.
“The way I gasped. So proud of you <3," wrote a fourth person.
The first season of “Stranger Things” premiered on Netflix in 2016, when Wolfhard and Schnapp were 13 and 11, respectively. Filming for the fifth and final season of the supernatural thriller is expected to begin this May.
