A former associate principal at an Iowa high school killed himself last week amid allegations of sexually abusing a student – the second to face such charges to take his own life this month, a report said. District employee.
William Terry, 47, a former Marshalltown High School employee, shot himself inside the basement of his AIIMS home on Thursday, as police arrived to execute an arrest warrant, WHO toldciting officials.
Terry was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a former student. The report said the allegations were reported to the police on July 6.
On July 8, Adam Eddington, a 42-year-old teacher at Marshalltown Middle School, fatally shot himself in his car, a day after he was busted for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old student.
Edgington was accused of groping and kissing teenagers multiple times over the previous school year, the report said.
Separately, 26-year-old Mark Esquivel, an ex-Marshalltown High School gym teacher, was arrested on June 30 for trying to have sex with a 17-year-old man, the report said.
Esquivel was accused of sexual abuse by a school employee.
Marshalltown Community School District superintendent Dr. Theron Schutte told the news station in a statement that the disturbing series of allegations against the men has led to a district-wide review of its recruitment and selection processes.
Schutte said, “The district will also provide additional training on staff ethics and responsibilities, and is reviewing curriculum to ensure that all students are informed of reporting – and given the right to seek help – if Any related situation arises,” Schutte said.
