Former London cop called ‘one of history’s worst sex offenders’ sentenced to 30 years in prison


A British policeman serving in London’s Metropolitan Police Force has been jailed for 30 years after committing multiple sex offenses over an 18-year period.

David Carrick was exposed as one of the most prolific sex offenders in the country’s history Admitted to 49 charges. – covers a total of 85 offenses – including 24 counts of rape.

Carrick, who joined the force in 2001 after serving in the British Army, appeared at London’s Southwark Crown Court on Monday where he 36 sentenced to life imprisonment.

A judge said Carrick acted as an “untouchable” between 2003 and 2020, using his power to take “massive advantage of women”.

After punishment, Office of the Attorney General He said he had received “numerous requests” to review Carrick’s jail term, with many suggesting it was too “lenient” for the offences.

“We can confirm that we have received a number of applications under the Leniency Scheme relating to David Carrick’s sentence,” a spokesman said.

Carrick was suspended in October 2021 after a second rape complaint was made against him. The force said Carrick was investigated over complaints made about him in 2001 and 2017, but no charges were ever laid.

David Carrick’s crimes were unspeakably bad. The details are appalling,” Met Police Commissioner Mark Rowley said in a statement.

“He subjected these victims and survivors to the most degrading and inhumane treatment and yet they had the courage to come forward and provide evidence that led to their conviction.”

“He abused his position as a police officer in a most despicable way. He should not have been a police officer,” Rawley added, adding that the force “wasn’t tough enough in our view.”

“I want to reiterate my apologies on Matt’s behalf. We are truly sorry,” added Rowley.

The court heard Carrick would meet his victims through dating apps, using his role as a police officer to gain their trust.

He confessed to raping some women on several occasions over the years.

Several victims bravely told the court that Carrick would lock them in a closet under the stairs in his home for hours without food. Some women were forced to clean his house naked.

Carrick would physically abuse and insult some of his victims, including whipping them with a belt and urinating on them. He also controlled some of them financially and in some cases, ensuring that the women were completely cut off from other men and their children.

The court heard Carrick called his victims “slaves”, “fat” and “lazy” and told them when they could eat and sleep.

Peter Burt, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said the criminal justice system had failed victims of sexual abuse.

“We know there are other victims of rape and serious sex crimes out there and that many of you may be concerned about whether or not you will ever see justice served.” Burt said in a statement.

“We hope that seeing Carrick, a prolific abuser, manipulator and rapist, behind bars will encourage other women to come forward, knowing that we will punish this man for his crimes. We will do everything we can to hold him accountable.”
