Ariel Helwani reported Monday A three-round welterweight feud between George Masvidal and Leon Edwards is set for UFC 269 in Las Vegas on December 11. The two had an unforgettable backstage encounter at UFC London in 2019, so they were Masvidal’s “three-piece soda” line after beating Edwards.
Masvidal (35-15) coming out of consecutive title fight over Kamaru Usman, rematch ends in second round KO UFC 261. The high-profile three-fight winning streak of Darren Till, Ben Askren (by kneeling in 5 seconds), and Nate Diaz significantly increased his profile on the way to becoming one of the most recognizable names on the UFC list.
Edwards (19-3, 1 NC) fought twice this year after not competing in 2020. He had an unfortunate eye piercing, made no contest against Belal Muhammad in March, then returned to a five-round unanimous victory over Nate Diaz UFC 263 In June. Edwards’ defeats at the UFC came in 2014 against Claudio Silva on his debut and in 2015 against Kamaru Usman.
As part of this news, it has been reported Men’s Flyweight Title Fight Between Brandon Moreno and Deveson Figuerdo will be moved to UFC 270 in January, which means we won’t get three title matches at UFC 269 but nevertheless it’s still a big card. Lightweight Champion Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier are expected to headline the event, with Amanda Nunes vs. women’s bantamweight contestant Juliana Pena co-leading.
