The grandmother of 20-month-old Quinton Simon, whose remains were found in a Georgia landfill after he disappeared in October, was arrested Monday.
Billie Joe Betterton, who also goes by the last name of Howell, was booked into the Chatham County Detention Center and is being held in the juvenile court system, according to jail records.
QUINTON SIMOON: The FBI initially focused on special bins for the missing baby’s remains.
Betterton’s daughter, Leilani Simon, 22, was arrested in November for the murder after police found Quinton Simon’s remains at a landfill in Savannah. She reported her son missing on October 5, and a few days later, she was named the prime suspect in his disappearance and death.
She said she woke up and believed someone had entered her home to take her son. He is reportedly charged with murder, concealing the death of another and falsely reporting a crime.
Betterton was in Simon’s custody when he disappeared.
Authorities combed through 1.2 million pounds of trash over 30 days before finding the remains.
