U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan begins questioning 231 potential jurors on Tuesday and plans to ask if they have opinions about “people who have a wealthy or luxurious lifestyle.”
The pool will be reduced to 12 judges and six alternatives.
Maxwell, 59, is accused of hiring and grooming girls from 1994 to 2004 to be abused by the late financier Geoffrey Epstein. Epstein was hanged in Manhattan jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on charges of sex crimes.
She has pleaded not guilty to six counts of sex trafficking, minors luring and other charges. Initial statements are set for Nov. 29.
The British socialist and former girlfriend of Epstein is locked up after her arrest and has repeatedly complained about the abominable conditions of her arrest. The judge rejected several bail proposals – including a $ 28.5 million package – calling Maxwell a “flight risk.”
Meanwhile, her brother Ian Mitchell said “Good morning BritainShe said in an exclusive interview that her sister was “not a monster” and innocent.

The Duke of York is suing Virginia Giuffre in a separate civil case – which Maxwell allegedly smuggled to him when he was only 17 years old. He has denied the allegations.
