Independent journalist Glenn Greenwald on Wednesday mocked “liberal corporate journalists” for their attacks on journalist Matt Taibbi and condemned the spread of “hate” on Twitter.
Last Friday, Taibbi reported on the “Twitter Files,” revealing internal Twitter communications about the suppression of the 2020 Hunter Biden laptop story. It has since released “additional” information and that “Twitter’s deputy general counsel (and former FBI general counsel) Jim Baker has been fired. Among the reasons? An investigation into the first batch of ‘Twitter files.’ – without knowing the new management.”
Taibbi faced a lot of backlash from the left for this report, with several journalists and prominent Twitter users accusing him of doing “PR for the richest man in the world”.

Greenwald used the backlash as an opportunity to satirize the anger of liberal journalists, using so-called “online trust and security experts” to complain about the rise of hate on Twitter under Elon Musk, which he denied.
OBSERVATION: As Online Security Expects: My initial research shows a noticeable uptick in hate speech and concerted attacks by liberal corporate journalists against @MTaibby, followed by personal attacks and violent rhetoric against him in general over the last 5 days. showed,” Greenwald wrote Wednesday morning.
In a follow-up tweet, he mocked the idea that some of the most powerful people in politics are endangered by online criticism:
“As an online security professional, I know it’s important for my deeply empirical, data-driven work to be open to criticism from others in the community. @EliLake insists I’m insensitive to the fringe group known as “top FBI and corporate lawyers.” ‘”
Greenwald retweeted podcaster and Commentary editor Eli Lake’s post citing “the latest research on disinformation and stochastic terrorism” and saying, “Former senior FBI officials are one of the most vulnerable communities on the Internet. @ggreenwald ignores this.” fact” data-driven scholarship and still mocking their lived experiences is condemned.”

One of the most notable examples of a journalist whom liberal commentators warn against publicly criticizing is Washington Post columnist Taylor Lorenz.

Dictionary.com defines stochastic terrorism as “the mass demonization of an individual or group whose nature is statistically likely, but whose nature is unpredictable, to provoke an act of violence.”
Greenwald concluded his Twitter account by tweeting a ridiculous fake chart similar to one posted by anti-hate organizations, drawing a loose web of connections between left-wing journalists and organizations.
“What’s striking about this preliminary data is that it is immediately apparent that the bulk of the attacks on Taibbi are being driven by vectors of hate: NBC News” [Ben Collins] and @BrandyZadrozny, @TaylorLorenz of the WashPost, @justinbaragona of the Daily Beast tabloid, and several NYT tech reporters.
Fourth Watch editor Steve Krakauer had a similar response to the satirical chart.
“I was skeptical, but now I can see from the chart how serious this problem is. There is only one solution: we must rid this platform of dangerous vectors of hate,” he tweeted.
Rav Arora of the New York Post posted a similar response.
“Disturbing statistics on the rise in malicious attacks against @mtaibbi. Hate is unacceptable. It needs to be censored. I hope Matt recovers from PTSD from all of this,” she wrote.

Author and Washington Examiner columnist Tim Carney praised Greenwald for the quality of his satire: “Yeah, he’s got a great sounding board monitor/technology reporter/disinformation expert voice. Good.”
