Google says Apple’s iMessage and its blue message bubbles are dominated by bullying

Whenever you enter a text messaging thread on the iPhone, those blue and green message bubbles make it clear who else is on Android and iPhone.

Google claims the difference will lead to “peer pressure and bullying,” which ultimately gave Apple’s iMessage a clear edge.

Hiroshi Lockheimer, senior vice president of Google products, including Android Wrote on Twitter Apple’s attempts to lock users into iMessage are “a documented tactic.”

Lockheimer’s tweet, in response to a Wall Street Journal article on how teens stick with an iPhone on Android, is due to the green text bubble signaling they use on Android Dev.

“Using peer pressure and bullying as a way to market products is disgusting to a company that has humanity and equity as an important part of its marketing,” Lockheimer wrote. “Standards exist today to correct this.”

The official Twitter account for Android shares Lockheimer’s tweet, and Apple shares its own message not to benefit from bullying.

Read the statement that “Texting should bring us together and the solution exists.” “Let’s fix this as an industry.”

Apple could not immediately be reached for comment on the comments. The support page on Apple’s website states that the green text bubbles come from users who send short message service (SMS) messages. Available only for its products, including Apple’s iMessage, iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

Many Stories have for years favored the blue text bubble over iPhone users’ green, shutting down some Android owners with text threads.

Meanwhile, Google is pushing its own Rich Communication System (RCS) texting platform to compete better with iMessage.
