Vice President Kamala Harris is on her way to Walter Reed Medical Center on Sunday for a “routine doctor’s appointment” after coming into contact with three Texas Democratic lawmakers last week who tested positive for the coronavirus. LBL.
News of his visit came to the hospital in Bethesda, MD, just outside the nation’s capital. she tweeted: “This Delta version is no joke. Get vaccinated.”
Harris met with Lone Star State Democrats and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer in his Capitol Hill office last Wednesday.
Her spokeswoman Simone Sanders said Veep did not come into close contact with the ailing lawmakers.
“Based on the timeline of these positive tests, it was determined that the Vice President and his staff present at the meeting were not at risk of exposure as they were not in close contact with those who had tested positive and therefore needed to be tested. No need or quarantine,” Sanders said on Saturday, noting that Harris and his staff were vaccinated.
Her office did not immediately respond to questions from LBL about whether she was exhibiting symptoms.
Texas House Democratic Caucus Chairman Chris Turner said Saturday that three unnamed members would self-quarantine for 10 days.
One of them is experiencing mild symptoms of COVID-19.
Texas Democrats walked out of the State House of Representatives last Monday and boarded two chartered flights to Washington, D.C. to thwart a Republican-backed election reform bill by depriving the chamber of a quorum.
While in Washington to wait for a special legislative session called by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Democrats met with congressional lawmakers and pressured them to approve the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.
Democrats also walked out of the Rajya Sabha before voting on election legislation in the final hours of the regular legislative session on May 30, reducing the number of lawmakers required to vote in the House.
Texas Democrats have been slammed by Republicans for running away from their duties to represent their constituents, and Abbott has threatened to arrest them if they return to Texas in August.
