Howe Mandel talked about living with anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder for most of his life.
A judge at America’s Got Talent, 65, spoke publicly about a former obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The condition is characterized by having intrusive, unwanted thoughts that manifest as phobias and lead to repetitive behaviors or compulsions, as well as anxiety. Mayo Clinic.
Speaking People in a recent interview, Mandel explained that although he spoke openly about his condition, he never fully revealed how low he could fall when his condition affected him. In particular, he tends to worry about his wife Terry and their children, son Alex, 31, and daughters Riley, 28, and Jackie, 36.
In normal times, he would simply focus on the well-being of his family. However, during last year’s coronavirus pandemic, the star said she had an overdose of OCD.

One of the biggest things Mandel learned about himself was that finding a laugh in his dark moments was probably the best thing he could do for himself.

“My ability to cope seems ridiculous,” he said. “If I don’t laugh, then I’m crying. And I still haven’t said openly how dark and ugly it will be.”
He noted that finding his place on the comedy team saved his life in many ways. His thoughts on this are similar to his thoughts on the past.
