A transgender woman said she spent decades in secret. to be His wife—and only after the untimely death of his spouse—came out.
Cherylyn Hall, 57, was born male in England and knew from a young age that she was stuck in the wrong body.
The confused young man – then known as Tony – remained in the closet and lived as a man, marrying a woman named Therese in the late 1980s.
The couple were married for 30 years before Therese’s death in 2019 forced Hall to finally come to terms with his true identity.
“Three was only 54 when she died, and I thought life was too short,” Hall said in an interview. PA real life. “I just got to take the wheel, which was my eureka moment.”

Growing up as a young boy, Hall said he admired his mother’s clothes and cosmetics, saying, “I used to watch my mother put on makeup, thinking, ‘I want to wear this.’ When can I do it?’ ….had a beautiful bright pink, floral tutu. [that she owned]And I wore it every Friday.
Hall began cross-dressing in private but still presented publicly as a man. At the age of 23, Hall met Theresa at a local pub and was instantly smitten.
“I never talked to her, I was so shy,” Burt recalled. “So he talked to me, and we got together. The rest is history.”
“She was 5-foot-4, blonde and always wore heels and dresses,” Hall continued. “It’s exactly what I wanted, and what I wanted to be. I think that’s part of the reason I fell in love with him – I wanted to be him.
The couple married and had children, with Thérèse eventually being informed of her husband’s cross-dressing secret.
“She put up with it for the first year or two,” Hall said. “But by the end, she knew there was more to it. It caused a lot of problems in our marriage and was the root of most of our arguments.
“Over time, he helped me buy clothes. I’ll be honest. My cross-dressing was a poor substitute for living the lie I was living,” she added.
Therese was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016 and passed away in January 2019.
Although Hall was devastated, she believed it was a sign of starting to live her truth as a transwoman and finally went to the doctor in September 2019.
Hall now identifies as a woman and takes hormones, but she said she is waiting for bottom surgery before she can start dating again.
“I’m sick because I’ve been married to a beautiful woman for 30 years, [but] I’m not in a position to decide whether my next partner will be a man or a woman because I don’t know how I’ll feel until I feel like a woman,” she confides. admitted to
Hall’s children have accepted her new identity, but the blonde said she “still faces a lot of resistance” in wider society.
“Whenever I’m out, you’ll see couples pushing each other and kind of laughing and laughing, and I can imagine what they’re saying,” she lamented. “But I just have to be me, and I have to put on this brave face and pretend that everything is fine.”
